The Merchant Taylors' Oxfordshire Academy Trust (MTOAT) was formed in 2011 when Wallingford School became an academy. Brightwell cum Sotwell Primary School joined the Trust in 2017 and was followed by Aylesbury University Technical College in 2021.

Wallingford School was established in Wallingford in 1659 by the merchant tailor Walter Bigg who wanted to endow a school associated with the parish church of St Mary’s. Walter Bigg was born and raised locally and went on to be elected Lord Mayor of London. Although he made good he never forgot his roots and was keen to help others. He left a trust fund that still exists for the benefit of our young people. We hope to encourage a similar desire to serve the community in our current students.

We are proud to have maintained our links with the Merchant Taylors' Company in the City of London continuously since 1659 and were delighted to become the Merchant Taylors' Oxfordshire Academy Trust. The Merchant Taylors’ Company are supportive, engaged and interested in our schools and this support is highly valued by all members of our school community. In its relatively short existence, the Company has already made a real difference to the lives of our young people.
